5 Social Distancing & Self-Isolation Tips

COVID-19: Quarantine Sentence

Self-isolation, confinement, seclusion. All of the above. The Rona has taken over and we’ve been sentenced to quarantine. These types of things are unimaginable, yet is our recent reality. We are to complete "a 15 day self quarantine" -- Or until further notice. Although this is the best way to tackle the virus, we must tackle and adjust to solitary confinement at home. So I’m here to help.

1. WORKING FROM HOME

Most of you already work from home throughout the week. For the next few weeks, we will ALL be remote/teleworking. Now, I like to work from home here and there, but EVERYDAY is a stretch. This will be an adjustment for a lot of us. So let’s cut to the chase.

CLOCK IN & CLOCK OUT

Establish your Work / Home balance boundaries. Clock-in & Clock Out your 8 hours. You can either start early or work your normal hours — as long as you put in those hours and don’t go over. Yes, we have more wiggle room to multi-task, but remember you are at home.

Work station & routine

Make a space for your work station, if you don’t already have one. This helps maintain your work/home boundary. Make up a routine to stick to for your working time — freshen up, thrown on your lounge wear, eating breakfast, taking lunch and breaks.

Today, most of us just don’t cook. 20-something or even 30-somethings most of us are use to cooking MAYBE like twice a week. Three times a week at MAX. So before you bum-rush the grocery stores, meal plan, add in snacks and stick to a budget. More time at home = More food eaten. You’ll be surprised at how much you eat when at home.

EAT & HYDRATE

Stock up on food at the grocery store. Not just anything though. It’s Corona Virus season and we have take the initiative to keep and build up our immunity systems. So, stock up on the veggies, fruits and water. Healthier options. Just throw it in the cart! Don’t forget snacks!

ESSENTIALS

These are easy. Already said food, but PAPER TOWELS, TOILET PAPER, TRASH BAGS , CLEANING PRODUCTS (LYSOL, BLEACH) & SOAP. Word on the street is, people are on the hunt for TOILET PAPER. There are shortages for these items, so monitor your use of them.

3. social distancing

By nature, we are social creatures. So, it’s normal for us to be around people all of time. Now, we really have to downsize on the social interaction. Because of this, many events, businesses restaurants or any place that have an occupancy of 10 or more are shut down until further notice. This not a joke.

KEYS TO SOCIAL DISTANCING

  • Stay connected. Text, Facetime, Call family, friends and loved one. Also, be updated on news.

  • Limit human contact

  • Prevent spreading of germs - cover your mouth, nose & eyes.

  • PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS!

During this stay at home period, it’s important to check-in. I’m talking about your mental health and self-care. Sure, anxiety levels are up due social distancing and figuring out how to go on with our lives for the next few months — no social interaction, financial hardships, trying to keep busy etc. Let’s stay SANE at home.

SELF-CARE

You’re at home, you have more time to invest into your self-care. Sit back and relax.

Take a bath, add the candles, and add some calm tunes. I know gyms are closed, but you can create your own in-house workouts, do yoga or meditate — Good for the body, mind and soul.

MENTAL HEALTH

I think our social dependence and keeping occupied are being tested. So, it’s our job to keep sane. Take breaks, take a walk and keep your mind at ease. Best way to keep your mind going is finding things to do, self-care (explained) and getting plenty of rest.

Think about the things you didn’t have time to do before.

  • Read a book

  • Journal / Write

  • Clean out & re-organize

  • Fix up some things around your house, apartment or car.
