/We are in a pivotal time in history. Besides COVID, we are taking action and a stand on the racial injustice in the country. With the Black Lives Matter Movement happening, let’s celebrate this time for change, freedom of African Americans, heritage/ culture and ancestors. Independence Day. Hint, I’m not talking about July 4th.

Juneteenth, (June 19th, 1865) marks the official end of slavery in America. This was when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached the last groups of slaves. Although, the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1st 1863, this news took over 2 and half years to reach Texas. Therefore, making the last group of slaves free. Not recognized as a holiday, this is still an important day for African Americans to celebrate and recognize their freedom and heritage. So here’s a guide to celebrate along with a few upcoming events taking place.
